Step by step

  1. Step 1: Fill out the card

    Add your name, today’s date and date of birth.

  2. Step 2: Get blood flowing

    Warm hands under hot water or rub them together. Shake your hand below your waist, jump, shake or dance.

  3. Step 3: Choose a finger

    Wipe your middle or ring fingertip with the alcohol wipe.

  4. Step 4: Use the lancet

    Twist off the cap; the needle remains hidden. Press the lancet into the side of your finger. Catch the first blood drop on the gauze.

  5. Step 5: Collect the sample

    Drip 4–6 large drops onto each small square. Never touch or tap the card.

    Squeeze gently downward. Red blood must flow right past the first line, or the lab cannot analyze the sample.

    If flow stops, clean another finger and use an extra lancet.

  6. Step 6: Finish up

    Bandage your finger. Dry the card for at least 60 minutes.

  7. Step 7: Pack for return

    When dry, put the card in the foil bag. Put the bag in the return mailer and seal the mailer.

  8. Step 8: Mail your sample

    Mail within one day of collection.
